Biografía:
(Minneapolis, EE UU, 1958) Cantante y compositor estadounidense. Fue el gran renovador de la música negra de su país durante la década de 1980, con grabaciones tan famosas como Purple rain (1984) y Sign ‘O’ the times (1987), en las cuales combinó el funk con la psicodelia y el pop. Músico autodidacto, adquirió gran popularidad gracias a su imagen provocativa y fantasiosa. Ha publicado diversos trabajos bajo los seudónimos de Jaime Starr, Joey Coco, Christopher y Love Symbol, si bien este último se debió en parte a problemas contractuales que le decidieron a dejar de utilizar el nombre de Prince y provocaron que su disco The black album, que estaba listo para salir al mercado, fuese vetado por su casa discográfica y se distribuyera únicamente en edición pirata. Otras obras destacables de su discografía han sido Lovesexy (1988), Batman (1989), banda sonora del filme homónimo, o Diamonds and pearls (1991). A mediados de los noventa abandonó su conocido seudónimo e insistió en ser conocido con el apelativo único de «The Artist».
